Carl Danielson, Video Editor

Carl Danielson is a video editor for THE SMARTLYS comedy TV series.

He was recently interviewed by Floyd Strayer, Director/Producer of THE SMARTLYS.

FS: Tell us about your role in The Smartlys.

CD: I joined the video editing team of The Smartlys in mid-Season 3, mostly because I had worked on a lot of different things and I just missed comedy. The Smartlys’ DIY madcappery really appealed to me.

FS: Tell me more about your playwright and comedy background.

CD: I moved to Minnesota in 2020, just in time to get benched by the pandemic. But thanks to the Minnesota Fringe Festival's shockingly generous Virtual Fringe I was able to create some Zoom pieces that got some attention. It seemed like a new way of working, and I’m curious how far that can go.

FS: What kind of editing work have you done apart from The Smartlys?

CD: Mostly comedy reels, both for myself and other clients. I have a theater background, and I like to try to figure out how to make things work in a digital realm in the same way they work on stage.

I've done online social media publicity for small theater companies as well.
