Dominic Strayer as Caddy in Comedy TV Series!

Dominic Strayer plays the Caddy in THE SMARTLYS award-winning comedy TV series, which is streaming free on TUBI and PLEX TV.  

Tell us about your character in The Smartlys.

In the show, I'm sixteen years old, and Preston Smartlys' caddy. Recently, we both had Experimental Rewiring Surgery, where our feelings were switched. Thus, Preston feels like a teenager again, and I feel like an old soul! 

Since Preston is a narcissist, he has his monogram on everything -- including my hat and clothes. 

What are 3 things about you we don’t know about ‘you’…(not your character)?

I was sixteen when I joined the cast. Since the show is frozen in time, Caddy is still sixteen, although, of course, I'm older now. 

This version of THE SMARTLYS got off the ground when I went to visit my grandpa (Floyd Strayer) and Shelley wrote some skits so that we could have some fun during lockdown. And, it suddenly developed into a new version that we could produce during the pandemic.

What compelled you to audition for The Smartlys? 

Weirdly, I never did an actual audition. THE SMARTLYS was originally being produced in front of a live audience in a seniors' complex. 

I was in San Diego on vacation, visiting my grandparents. So I was hanging around the set and helping my grandpa with things. I went with him to watch the production of the Smartly Sunny Day jingle at Hedges Capers' place. After filming one day, grandpa wanted me to play his caddy for a red carpet photo session, since it's hard to be a golf pro without one.

The stage manager, Rodrigo Garcia, noticed me there and told Shelley it'd be really funny if Preston's caddy was ordering him around all the time. So she arranged for us to have our feelings switched, and now I live every kid's dream, as I'm always bossing my grandpa around! 

Do you have any words of wisdom/advice for actors? 

I wasn't an actor when I started this. In fact, I was a little shy and I didn't know how to memorize lines, either. But it's amazing what we can do if we're willing to just face being uncomfortable, and try new things anyway.
